Of the four things that determine the course of civilization, greed is probably the most pervasive. Once folk settled and started farming and mining, there was always someone who found that others wanted what they had in plenty, and were willing to pay for it. And so merchants fanned out across the globe, trading in everything from grain to gold, hemp to human beings. The most adventurous among these were always seeking new markets, and hence were explorers who brought back knowledge of distant peoples and customs. Some of the greatest discoveries were the product of the greed of these adventurers. Their travels also enriched their nations in more material ways, for the taxes and profits from their trips funded great works of engineering, education, colonization, art, and war. Without the great merchants, civilization would have been much poorer.

Corporations were first introduced in Civ 4, and fans of the series have been asking for the mechanic to make a return. The developers listened, and now players can create companies based around the different luxury resources in their lands. Luxury resources grant amenities to keep civilians happy, but now they operate with more strategic depth. Here's all there is to know about corporations and strategizes to best utilize them.

Lastly, players that control a large portion of a certain resource will create a monopoly of it, granting bonuses to gold output and tourism. To check which Civs have what resource, click the 'list of reports' button in the top right corner, then choose the global resource option. Doing so will list every resource in the game and how many each civ owns. It will also share how much of that luxury is in the game world, which players can find manually by typing the luxury's name in the map search option. Try to find where every resource is, and settle there before other Civs claim it for themselves. If a city-state owns a luxury, then become its suzerain to

Great people or GP are historical figures with special abilities that can be earned once you have accumulated enough GP points. They can only be earned by Civilizations and not by city states. Every Civilization in the game can see and earn the same great people, so they are competed over by all Civilizations, not just your own. And a Great Person can only be earned once.

Another great opportunity to focus on your civ's financial security is by assigning a shrewd roster of economically attuned policies. We've included a list of the most economically conducive policies in Civ 6 and what they do, as well as highlights on a couple of our favorite Policy Cards.

Settlement choice is very important for a great many reasons, but if a player is focused on becoming rich this early stage is vital. A player would want to settle in an area that has luxury items such as coffee beans or silk, as these are hot commodities that other civilizations will want. The player will then be able to sell these items for either gold or other resources. In addition, some of these luxury resources also provide gold per turn, so it's wise to have some within the borders of the civilization. Though all resources are helpful, luxury items will help make money.

Envoys are a great game mechanic for any type of Civilization 6 player as they provide bonuses according to the city-state where they are sent. For example, sending many envoys to a Financial city-state will accumulate more gold per turn with more envoys that are sent there. As a Suzerain of a Financial city-state, the player would also have access to all the resources of the city-state, which can mean their bank account as well. It's a very simple strategy for maximizing the focus on gold.

Another very important consideration is that sometimes civilizations and leaders have bonuses that do not fit under any victory condition. For example, Kublai Khan of Mongolia has the benefit of having an additional economic card slot. This is a great ability but does not fit under any of the victory conditions. So, we recommend that you check out the abilities on the next page to see which ones the official tier list above might be missing.

Do not underestimate the value of Pantheons. This is one of the most important considerations of the early game. One consideration is doing the Shrine Rush, where you get Pottery first, then build A Scout and Shrine. This will allow you a greater choice of Pantheons, which is critically important, as these benefits last you the entirety of the game.

Great People are essential in moving things forward in Civilization VI because they can lend you all types of perks for a turn, ranging from combat abilities to District building. Listed below is the full list of Great People available in the game, and the bonuses that they can provide.

A merchant is a person who trades in commodities produced by other people, especially one who trades with foreign countries. Historically, a merchant is anyone who is involved in business or trade. Merchants have operated for as long as industry, commerce, and trade have existed. In 16th-century Europe, two different terms for merchants emerged: meerseniers referred to local traders (such as bakers and grocers) and koopman (Dutch: koopman) referred to merchants who operated on a global stage, importing and exporting goods over vast distances and offering added-value services such as credit and finance.

The status of the merchant has varied during different periods of history and among different societies. In modern times, the term merchant has occasionally been used to refer to a businessperson or someone undertaking activities (commercial or industrial) for the purpose of generating profit, cash flow, sales, and revenue using a combination of human, financial, intellectual and physical capital with a view to fueling economic development and growth.

Merchants have been known for as long as humans have engaged in trade and commerce. Merchants and merchant networks operated in ancient Babylonia and Assyria, China, Egypt, Greece, India, Persia, Phoenicia, and Rome. During the European medieval period, a rapid expansion in trade and commerce led to the rise of a wealthy and powerful merchant class. The European age of discovery opened up new trading routes and gave European consumers access to a much broader range of goods. From the 1600s, goods began to travel much further distances as they found their way into geographically dispersed market-places. Following the opening of Asia to European trade and the discovery of the New World, merchants imported goods over very long distances: calico cloth from India, porcelain, silk and tea from China, spices from India and South-East Asia and tobacco, sugar, rum and coffee from the New World. By the eighteenth century, a new type of manufacturer-merchant had started to emerge and modern business practices were becoming evident. 2ff7e9595c
